Pune To Penang!

Pulau Pinang
The island of the areca-nut

My nomadic heart is dancing a little jig. It is time to move again!

Exactly ten years after flying the nest to a whole new country, unknown shores beckon again. It is time to cross a country border yet another time, figure things out from scratch, make new friends, count strange new currency, and generally try to survive. B and I are crossing the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea to new positions in our respective jobs on the island of Singapore-Malaysia respectively. This exhilaration and exhaustion of moving is strangely addictive.

My last move two years ago was so different. I was coming back to my homeland with a cushion of familiarity and no pressure of work as I took six months off between jobs. B had everything setup and all I had to do was waltz in and try to adapt after eight years away from home. Portland to Pune was not easy, but I learnt a lot about myself and my priorities, and with that comes a deep feeling of gratefulness to dear ol’ Pune. Both places were indeed home, as were Tempe and Bangalore before them. A bit of my heart still resides in Portland, but I don’t think I will miss Pune.

It is now time for Penang (seriously, what’s with this P theme?!). I’m looking forward to how this will pan out. At some level, I realize that this need for change and exhilaration and exhaustion is not sustainable; but for now I’m willing to shelve that thought and join my heart in its little jig.

Goodbye Pune We gave away a few of our books for the first time in our lives. It was traumatic, but we know it is in good hands. Thanks Neha & Vishal of Pagdandi, the ONLY thing I will miss in Pune!
Goodbye Pune!
We gave away a few of our books for the first time in our lives as part of an attempt to move towards a minimalist lifestyle. It was traumatic, but we know they are in good hands. Thanks Neha & Vishal of Pagdandi, the ONLY thing I will miss in Pune!
